Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) 2024

On June 25, 2015, the Ministry of Housing and Gramin Affairs established the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-Gramin). The plan intends to offer pucca homes to all qualified Gramin households by 2022, addressing the Gramin housing shortage among the EWS/LIG and MIG groups, which include those living in slums. The Union Cabinet has resolved to extend PMAY(Gramin) until December 31, 2024.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin Eligibility (PMAY-G): Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for PMAY-G, families must fall into one of the specified EWS categories as defined by the government. This is typically determined using annual household income and social data. Priority is given to households that do not have a home, live in damaged buildings, or are members of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and minority communities.

Identification and Selection of Participants Under Gramin

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) focuses primarily on the housing requirements of the Gramin poor. Aside from that, the project addresses the housing needs of slum people who live in small areas of slums with inadequate infrastructure, sanitation, and drinking water.

PMAY-U primarily benefits middle-income groups (MIGs), low-income groups (LIGs), and the economically weaker sections (EWS).

While beneficiaries in the EWS category are entitled to full assistance under the plan, beneficiaries in the LIG and LIG categories are only eligible for the Credit Linked Subsidy plan (CLSS) through PMAY.

To be recognized as a LIG or EWS recipient under the Scheme, the applicant must submit an affidavit as income evidence to the authority.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-Gramin), as the name means, targets urban regions in India. This plan currently covers 4,331 towns and cities. The scheme is set to function in three distinct phases:

Phase 1: The government planned to cover 100 cities in various states and UTs across the country from April 2015 to March 2017.

Phase 2: Between April 2017 and March 2019, the government planned to cover 200 more cities across various states and union territories around the country.
